I’ve been grooming dogs for over twelve years, and I opened Barker & Bloom because I wanted a calmer kind of salon: one dog at a time, no rush, no chaos.
I’m calm-handling trained, which really just means I read what your dog is telling me and go at their pace. Nervous dogs, older dogs, wriggly puppies. They’re all welcome, and they all leave a little happier than they came in.

How often should my dog be groomed?
For most dogs it’s every 6–8 weeks, though it depends on the coat: curly and long coats need a little more, short coats a little less. Book once and I’ll remind you when your dog’s due, so you never have to keep a mental note.
My dog is nervous, or it’s their first groom
Then you’ve come to the right place. I keep the salon quiet, take everything at your dog’s pace, and never force anything. For puppies and first-timers there’s a short, gentle intro groom so it’s a good first experience. Just tell me on the booking form what they’re like and I’ll plan around it.
Do you groom cats?
Yes, by request, with a few calm slots each week. Cats need a different, careful approach, so I arrange these over the phone first for a proper chat. Cat grooming starts from £35. Give me a ring on 07700 900123.
What’s included in a full groom?
A warm bath with the right shampoo for their coat, a blow-dry and full brush-out, a clip or scissor-style to breed or your preference, nails trimmed, ears cleaned and checked, and a light finishing spritz. The works, basically.
How long does it take?
Usually between 1½ and 3 hours depending on size, coat and how relaxed your dog is. I don’t double-book or rush, so I’d always rather take a little longer and keep your dog comfortable.
What if my dog’s coat is matted?
I’ll never hurt a dog to save a coat. If matting is tight, the kindest thing is often a shorter clip to start fresh, and I’ll always show you and talk it through first. From there, regular grooms keep it easy and comfortable.
